Sartenais-Valinco
The Sartenais-Valinco is a region rich in biodiversity with breathtaking landscapes and excellent opportunities for quiet and healthy leisure activities. The region offers the perfect combination between sandy beaches and coves and an unspoilt lush maquis vegetation. From Campomoro-Senetosa with 24 KM of preserved wild coastline to its seaside and perched villages like Porto Polo and Olmeto, the region is known for its rich culturel heritage and the beauty of its fauna and flora.
PRISTINE BEACHES
Offering more than 73 km of littoral and known for its pristine sand beaches and natural water creeks, the region is the perfect destination for a beach holiday. Explore Roccapina, Campomoro, Cupabia and many more; walk along Capo di Muro and admire its string of little creeks; or join one of the boat trips and discover the uniqueness of the Gulf of Valinco.
SPORT ACTIVITIES/CANONYING
Sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, waterskiing , fishing, horse riding, cycling, parachuting, to name a few, can all be enjoyed in and around the region of Olmeto. You can also enjoy canonying as the region is rich in waterfalls and natural rock pools.
PEDESTRIAN TRAILS/NATURE WATCHING
The region is home to many national parks and reserves ensuring lots of wild life and nature watching. From our house, you have access to many trails giving you the possibility to discover the countryside and the Alta Roca. The Mare e Mare south and the shorter Mare e Monti South both go through Olmeto. Few kilometres away, some trails such as the Campomoro and Capanella will take you along the coastline to Genoese towers. For birdwatching, the Etang de Tanchiccia, a 28 HA preserved marsh located only 16 km away from our house offers a great and unique experience!
BALNEOTHERAPY
The balneotherapy enthusiasts will enjoy the proximity of the thermal baths "Bains de Baracci" (7km) located in Olmeto as well as the "Bains de Caldane" (24km), located in Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano
OLMETO
Leave the car behind and walk along the quaint narrow paved streets of Olmeto; discover the village with its vaulted passageways and admire the authentic corsican houses with old red-tiled roofs; visit the Sainte-Marie Church built in the 9th century with its magnificent organ dating back to 1850; see the house where Columba Bartoli Carabelli, famous heroine of Proper Mérimée's novel, spent her last years. Visit the ruins of Saint-Antoine Convent, classified as a historical monument; take the pilgrimage path that leads to the Saint-Esprit Chapel, a roman chapel from the 12th century and enjoy all the pedestrian trails in and around the village.
PROPRIANO
Drive 5 km to Propriano, a fishermen's village which has become a small seaside resort. Propriano is very lively and perfect for walks and water activities. Boat trips out into the Gulf of Valinco can easily be booked from few companies along the harbour side.
SARTÈNE
Explore Sartène, 19 km away, a medieval town perched on a rock and baptised by Prosper Mérimée as the "Most Corsican of Corsican Towns". Visit the Museum of Prehistory and the St-Damien Convent dating back to the 19th century.
PREHISTORICAL SITES
The region is rich in history with many sites renowned for their natural beauty. Visit the FILITOSA Site and admire its unique collection of megalithic monuments bringing the visitor back in time 8000 year. Visit the Megaliths of Cauria, a smaller site offering enjoyable sceneries. The archaeological museum of Sartène is a good complement to those sites as it houses exhibits dating back to the 8th millennium BC.
CAMPOMORO- GENOESE TOWER
The Campomoro Tower, a listed building, stands on the southernmost point of the Gulf of Valinco overlooking the pretty seaside village of Belvédère Campomoro. It is the largest genes tower in Corsica. Climb to to the top and enjoy panoramic views.
DAY TRIPS TO NEIGHBOURING REGIONS
Bonifacio (picture), Ajaccio, Porto-Vecchio, Bavella, to name a few, are all perfect 1 day trip destinations; all reachable within 1 hour to 1 hour and a half drive, depending on the traffic.
